Award objectives

Henri Boulard award aims at recognizing local initiatives dedicated to protecting microbiota and preserving human global health.

From water purification projects to health education programs, the project must address a local unmet need in the country; aims at improving populations’ global health.

3 different topics for 4 Awards

  •  2 awards for MICROBIOTA & HUMAN HEALTH

“To answer to a local medical unmet need related to microbiota”

  • 1 award for MICROBIOTA & ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE

« To maximize a better use of antimicrobial agents in order to prevent antimicrobial resistance »

  • 1 award for MICROBIOTA & ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS

« To reduce the impact of environmental changes (pollution, food, climate..) on microbial ecosytems »

Award amounts

Every year, 4 projects will each be awarded €10,000.

The grant will be provided  in 2 installments:

  • €8,000 : upon the awarding of the grant
  • €2,000 : 12 months after the start of the project (conditioned by the submission of a report)

Eligibility

1. Eligibility criteria

The project must address a local unmet need for human health.

The description of the project must indicate the tools used to respond to the problem. 

The applicant must be a health professional.

The application must be made on behalf of an association, a research organization, hospital or institution.

This project must be carried out in one of the following countries*:

  • Asia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Moldova, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Tadjikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam
  • Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru.
  • Middle East Africa: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Rep, Chad, Comores, Congo, Djibouti, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Irak, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rep. Demo. Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, Togo

* Note: In case of absence or insufficient quality of dossiers from a geographical area, the jury reserves the right to reallocate the award to another area.

2. Non Eligible projects

  • Initiatives with no link to microbiota
  • Clinical evaluations of drugs or medical devices
  • Pre-clinical studies
  • Personal bank account
  • Awardees of Henri Boulard Award of the previous year
  • Projects already supported (even partially) or submitted by international on-Governmental Organizations

Applications review

The jury will evaluate each application according to the following criteria:

  • The scientific relevance of the project (evidence of the link with microbiota),
  • Its significance in terms of health (the potential health improvements offered by the project),
  • Its relevance in terms of locally unmet needs for human health,
  • The quality of the application submitted (clarity of the explanation, organization, etc.),
  • Suitability and feasibility (in terms of tools and budget),
  • Ability to replicate the project in other countries.

Assessment Committee

Independent members with strong expertise in different fields such as microbiota, public health, infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance

Opening of the submission : April 30th

Closing of the submission : September 15th

The jury will select the recipients in November.

The applicants to the Henri Boulard Award must be health professionals.

The application shall not be made in a personal capacity but on behalf of an association, a research organization, hospital, or institution.

Projects already supported (even partially) or submitted by international on-Governmental Organizations are not eligible.

Please note that non-confidential information and illustrations concerning the winning projects will be published on the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation’s website.
