Inflammatory bowel diseases are
characterized by inflammation of
the lining of the digestive tract, due
to deregulation of intestinal immune
defenses. Changes in the composition
and functions of the microbiota have
now been confirmed.
FOCUS ON IRRITABLE BOWEL
SYNDROME
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), characterized by
abdominal pain and a change in bowel habits, is the most
common functional bowel disorder. The causes of this
syndrome have not yet been determined. However, a loss
of microbiota diversity has been pinpointed, opening up
exciting new therapeutic options.
WHAT IS IT?
DYSBIOSIS
Dysbiosis can be defined as an
alteration in the composition
and function of the microbiota

Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota has been observed
in many diseases. Is it the cause or the consequence?
That remains to be seen...
