BROAD LINES
OF RESEARCH THAT
WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY
BE APPLICABLE
TO DIFFERENT CANCERS
Over the past few years, the links
between microbiota and cancer have
been brought to light, leading to new
lines of research to improve diagnosis
or treatment of this disease.

PARTICIPATING IN DIAGNOSIS
Sadly, some cancer patients today have a very
low survival rate. Aside from treatment resistance,
delayed diagnosis is often partly to blame. This is
often the case with pancreatic cancer. Microbiota
could be a novel indicator for establishing early
diagnosis. A team of researchers set up a statistical
model comparing analysis of the fecal microbiota
of two patient cohorts (from Spain and Germany).
They showed that the composition of the fecal
microbiota, combined with pancreatic cancer
markers, may provide a way of identifying patients
suffering from this form of cancer, regardless of
the stage of their disease

. These results are really
encouraging.
Other similar studies are also in progress aimed at
improving the diagnose of thyroid or even cervical
cancer
